Food & Wellness
For Help |
Food offered in schools must support student health. It also needs to be part of a sustainable food system which supports consumer and farm-worker health. Local food sources are fresher and support the local economy while minimizing transportation impacts. Foods grown with life-harming chemicals do not support a healthy ecosystem. Food options should echo the student diversity. Our food system impacts not only our health, but also the environment and the economy. Our schools need to help students understand where food comes from. School gardens and farm to school programs can help.
Schools can also help students make healthy food and lifestyle choices, starting with the example they provide.
