2013 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School Awards

and

2013 Oregon Sustainable School Awards

The U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School Awards and Oregon Sustainable School Awards recognize public and private K-12 schools for progress within four “Pillars” of sustainability:

  1. Environmental Impacts
  2. Healthy, Safe Students and Staff
  3. Education for Sustainability: Environmental and Social Literacy
  4. Social Sustainability

The Sustainable Oregon Schools Initiative (SOSI) and the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) work in partnership to offer these award programs to Oregon schools. The two award programs are aligned, and the same application process serves for both.

Green Ribbon School Awards

Oregon is a participating state in this 2nd year of the U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School Awards. Each participating state can nominate up to 4 schools, whereby one of the four must be a private school and one must be a school with at least 40 percent of its students eligible for free and reduced lunch. Each nominee school must demonstrate high overall performance across Pillars 1, 2 and 3. See Green Ribbon School details on the U.S. Department of Education website.

Oregon Sustainable School Awards

Also in its 2nd year, the Oregon awards recognize the school with the highest overall achievement across all four Pillar areas, as well as the highest achieving schools in each of the four Pillars.
